Just when we thought there couldn’t be any more tax proposals — BOOM!!
They throw out more.
Taxing our groceries? Haircuts? Deliveries? And now Netflix? You have to be joking.
It’s almost 8 p.m. and we’re still here at the Capitol during Veto Session, and Democrats are pushing a plan to raise taxes on working families to fund a $2 billion bailout for Chicago’s transit system.
Here’s what they’re proposing:
Sales Tax Hike – raises the cost of gas, groceries, school supplies, and childcare.
Delivery Tax – makes essentials like baby formula, diapers, and household supplies more expensive.
“Fun Tax” – adds new taxes to streaming services and entertainment.
Service Taxes – hikes costs for haircuts, car repairs, and home maintenance.
Real Estate Transfer Tax – makes buying or selling a home more expensive.
New Vehicle Tax – increases the cost of owning or replacing a car.
$1 Toll Surcharge – takes more out of every paycheck just to get to work.
10% Rideshare Tax – raises the cost of getting to work, appointments, or school.
Payroll (Head) Tax – raises costs for employers, which could mean fewer jobs and lower wages.
More Speed Cameras – means more fines for parents and workers just trying to get to work.
Families are already doing everything they can to make ends meet.
Illinois doesn’t have a revenue problem — it has a spending problem.
