Springfield – Area seniors are encouraged to join State Senators Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet), Kyle McCarter (R-Lebanon), and Dale Righter (R-Mattoon) along with State Representative John Cavaletto (R-Salem) at their FREE July 31 Senior Wellness Fair from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Effingham Elks Lodge located at 2102 South Banker Street in Effingham.
“This Effingham senior fair will also enable area residents from neighboring Shelby County to be more aware of all the assistive services that are offered in the multi-county regions,” Senator Rose said. “I appreciate the area’s providers making their time available to help educate our senior citizens about these quality of life services.”
“We hear a lot of discussion these days about the high cost of health care. One way that people can lessen that burden is through preventative care,” said Senator McCarter. “This health fair just may provide the additional information about one’s health status to help address underlying problems before they become serious. I hope to see our seniors at the event.”
“Health fairs, such as the one we are coordinating in Effingham, are a great opportunity to not only get a few tests done to make sure everything is working alright, but also to learn about other health-related issues you should be watching for. It’s much easier to work to prevent a health issue than to have to deal with it after it has become a problem,” said Representative Cavaletto
Area residents can learn about programs that benefit senior citizens and free health screenings will be available for blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, Body Mass Index and many more. Additionally, free refreshments will be provided and drawings for door prizes will take place.
“This event provides a great opportunity for area seniors and their family members to talk with representatives from a number of state agencies and local organizations about the issues and concerns that frequently impact the senior community,” said Senator Righter.
