SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) is hosting a March 27 legislative update about federal and state governments’ efforts relating to Lake Shelbyville and its component natural wildlife areas. Congressman John Shimkus (R, Illinois-15) will also be in attendance.
The event will be held from 2:30 to 4:30 PM, Wednesday, March 27 at the Lake Shelbyville Visitors Center auditorium, located at RR4 Box 128, which is just east Shelbyville off of Illinois Route 16.
“I am pleased to accept Chapin’s invitation to join him in a discussion about the future of Lake Shelbyville,” Shimkus said. “The lake is a great asset to the region in so many ways.”
“I know how big of a deal Lake Shelbyville is to our local economy and environmental ecosystem. Every time I visit Shelby or Moultrie Counties, I get asked any number of questions about the government’s management of the lake area,” Rose said. “In response to those questions, I am happy to bring the Department of Natural Resources in to report on the areas under their control and I am grateful to Congressman Shimkus for helping to secure the participation of the Army Corps of Engineers.”
The event is meant to provide the general public with the latest information about the 11,100-acre lake and surrounding parks. Shelby and Moultrie Counties both greatly benefit from tourism dollars that flow into the region. Senator Rose and Congressmen Shimkus are working with local leaders to encourage cooperative efforts between state and federal authorities. This joint community update of the agencies future plans is a step in that direction.
Officials are coordinating with the Army Corps of Engineers and the Department of Natural Resources for an afternoon panel discussion about this wonderful regional asset. After the Corp and DNR presentations, local economic development experts, mayors and county board chairs will also make presentations.
