SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) offered the following comments after Governor Pat Quinn delivered his annual Budget Address on March 26.
“I cannot believe Governor Quinn could stand there and say he needs more money. The whole point of the largest tax increase in state history, according to the Democrat legislative majorities that voted it in, was to pay the bills and better fund education,” Rose said. “An astounding $26 billion later, local school districts are still owed more than $500 million and that is after general state aid to local schools was slashed by the Democrats. Governor Quinn has had 5 years and $26 billion in new revenues and it has been squandered – so much for ‘paying the bills and helping K-12’ as was promised. Now he wants more money. Why would anybody trust him this time around?”
