Rose statement on House Amendment to Mahomet Aquifer Bill
Related to People’s Gas Leak in Northwest Champaign County
Senator Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) released the following statement after passage of Senate Bill 2027:
“As always, when it comes to our local water supply, Senator Bennett and I work together. In this case, we worked with the Illinois EPA to draft an amendment to authorize helicopter-based electromagnetic imaging of the Peoples Gas field in Northwest Champaign County and Rep. Ammons agreed to add our language to the bill in the House. I couldn’t be any happier that the work of the Mahomet Aquifer Task Force is starting to come to fruition in the form of additional protections for our water supply. In this case, I believe that People’s Gas should pay for this important imaging study.”
Editors note: HTEM imaging will help us to identify possible pathways the contamination can take. By knowing that, we can better design interdiction strategies to remediate and get the gas out of the water. The amended bill passed both chambers and is now headed to the Governor.
