The Illinois Senate passed legislation April 11 co-sponsored by State Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) that would financially help the Monticello School District to the tune of $718,023.
Monticello is one of several school districts throughout the state that rely more heavily on Corporate Personal Property Replacement Tax (CPPRT) dollars and that are currently losing out on critical funding due to CPPRT diversions, put in place by a budget passed by Democratic majorities in Springfield.
“Other area districts funded by General State Aid do not have this heavy reliance on CPPRT,” Rose said. “Therefore, other districts did not get ‘hit’ like Monticello did. Senate passage of this bill begins to right that wrong.
“I want to thank Vic Zimmerman, Superintendent of Monticello, for his hard work on this issue and for building a coalition to get this passed in the Senate. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House to get this passed and sent to the Governor’s desk.”
