The Illinois Senate this week passed legislation to honor a Navy Seal and two police officers who were tragically killed in the line of duty.
Senate Joint Resolution 35 would dedicate Illinois Route 29 through Chillicothe as the “Senior Chief Petty Officer William ‘Ryan’ Owens Memorial Highway.” Owens, a husband and father of three children, was a highly decorated combat veteran with numerous awards who served 12 deployments. On Jan. 29, 2017, Senior Chief Petty Officer Owens died from wounds sustained while in combat supporting overseas contingency operations.
Senate Joint Resolution 36 would dedicate the Illinois Route 78 overpass over Interstate 80 as the “Deputy Sheriff Adam Streicher and Chad Wolf Memorial Overpass.” Stark County Deputy Streicher was killed while attempting to serve a “failure to pay” warrant on March 22, 2002. Michigan State Trooper Wolf was killed while on patrol when his motorcycle was struck by another vehicle on Aug. 28, 2015. Streicher and Wolf were both graduates of Annawan High School.
Both resolutions are now headed to the Illinois House of Representatives for consideration in that chamber.
