As work begins on the state’s next budget, State Senator Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) will be leading the efforts for the Senate Republican Caucus as their chief budget negotiator.
“The state’s budget should represent the priorities of the people, because, after all, it is their money that is being spent,” said Rose. “Everyone knows that Illinois has a significant spending problem, so it’s my job to fight to bring sanity to the process.”
As the caucus’s chief budget negotiator, Rose will serve as the ranking Republican on the Senate Appropriations Committee. Under new Republican Leader John Curran (R-Downers Grove), Rose has once again been appointed to this role.
“We are lucky to have Sen. Rose’s expertise and experience as the lead Republican on the Appropriations Committee,” said Illinois Senate Republican Leader John Curran (R-Downers Grove). “I am confident in his leadership to help guide our caucus through the budgeting process so we can provide valuable input for our districts and the people of Illinois.”
“I am grateful to Leader Curran and the other members of our caucus for entrusting me to continue in this role on behalf of the Senate Republican Caucus and the people of Illinois that our we represent in Springfield,” Rose concluded.
Senator Rose will also be serving on the Appropriations-Education, Insurance, Judiciary, and Transportation Committees. The Appropriations-Education committee includes oversight of state university and community college budgets. The new 51st Senate District includes Eastern Illinois University and is the bedroom community for the University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign, as well as home to numerous community colleges.
