A section of roadway in Shelbyville in dire need of repair will soon get a facelift. Illinois 128 (N. Cedar St.) from Illinois Route 16 (West Main St.) to slightly north of North Sixth Street in Shelbyville will be resurfaced, State Rep. Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville) and State Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) announced Nov. 29.
After Halbrook and Rose personally brought the issue to IDOT, $470,000 has been allocated for the project.
“Obviously, there is more work that needs to be done to Illinois 128 than just this one section of road, but the work being done represents a significant step forward,” Halbrook said. “Senator Rose and I will keep pushing for additional funding to complete the project and we will continue to provide additional updates as we get them.”
“This section of Illinois 128 is highly traveled and is a complete mess right now,” Rose said. “Resurfacing this section is overdue. We understand more work needs to be done on the rest of 128 and other roads, but we are happy this is getting done now.”
IDOT says the resurfacing project is scheduled for a March letting and construction should start in the spring of 2019.
