Springfield, IL – Senator Chapin Rose’s (R-Mahomet) statement today as the Senate Executive Committee failed to advance a bill to protect the Mahomet Aquifer.
“Immediately after Gov. Pritzker (D-Chicago) recklessly signed legislation to allow dangerous carbon dioxide to be stored under the drinking water of 1 million Illinoisians, I was the first legislator in the state to file legislation to ban the practice permanently. I was happy to see Sen. Faraci recently also step up and join the fight with his own bill. However, the same Chicago politicians who hurriedly rushed Gov. Pritzker’s backroom deal into law over Memorial Day weekend last summer, ignoring pleas to take the “time” to get carbon capture right, today refused to support our legislation to fix the mess they created by now claiming they need “more time” to study it. Maybe if they got this right the first time, we wouldn’t be in this mess. So, count me as a suspect when these same Chicago politicians now ask for more time to think about it. What’s there to think about? Clean water is clean water, it should be a ‘no brainer.’”
“I want to thank Senator Faraci for standing alongside me in the fight to protect our drinking water. Despite the disappointing outcome today, I am going to continue to work with Sen. Faraci to get safe drinking water for the people of central Illinois. Nothing worth fighting for is ever easy…I just can’t understand why anyone would be against clean water? But, apparently, Gov. Pritzker and his allies are.”
