Sen. Rose Blasts Legislation to Allow Non-Citizens to Serve as Police Officers

Dangerous Precedent to Allow Foreign Citizens to Arrest Americans

State Senator Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) is pushing back against recent legislation to allow non-citizens to serve as police officers in Illinois, authorized to carry firearms and with full arrest powers.

“This is as irresponsible as it is dangerous,” said Rose. “We should not be allowing foreigners to arrest American citizens.”

House Bill 3751 would allow individuals who are not citizens to serve as police officers in Illinois.

“There are legal pathways for individuals to become naturalized American citizens, and that process should be completed before someone is entrusted with the power to arrest a U.S. citizen,” said Rose. “I don’t believe it’s too much to ask that our police officers be citizens of the country they work in.”
