“After Pat Quinn and Rod Blagojevich, what a breath of fresh air. I appreciate Governor Rauner’s candid assessment of the reality that our state faces. Righting the wrongs of a decade plus of mismanagement, making government more efficient, restoring fiscal responsibility, and providing a pathway to job creation for working families, he has laid out an ambitious plan. The path back to fiscal sanity will not be painless. He set a new and different tone that overall is very encouraging. In his inaugural speech, Governor Rauner reminded us all that we will have to share in some short-term pain so that everyone will have the opportunity to share in the future prosperity of an Illinois that regains its financial footing and becomes the economic leader that it should be. Just as our problems were not created overnight, the path forward will not be quick, but Governor Rauner’s speech today is the first step in restoring fiscal sanity to our state.”
